Dear Colleagues and Friends,

on behalf of the CIRP ICME '06 Organising Committee, I have the pleasure and honour to invite you to partecipate in the 5th CIRP International Seminar on Intelligent Computation in Manufacturing Engineering to be held in Ischia, Gulf of Naples, Italy.

The Seminar offers you the opportunity to visit (or re-visit) the "green" island of Ischia, worldwide famous for its beauty and enchantment. Its peculiarities are well described by the 19th century French writer Alfhonse de Lamartine: Ischia is like a Swiss mountain thrown into the middle of the gulf of Naples and includes all the advantages of the mountains and the sea. (Confessions, Graziella, 1849).

The CIRP ICME '06 International Seminar promises to be even more successful than its four predecessors since 1998 by attracting over 150 delegates and guests from 26 countries and 5 continents. Participating in the CIRP ICME '06 should therefore offer you the exciting opportunity to meet, interact and share ideas and experiences with  of experts in engineering manufacture science and technology (in a truly global environment).

See you in Ischia!

Notification of acceptance: 28 February 2006

Submission of full paper: 18 April 2006

5th CIRP Int. Sem. on ICME: 25 - 28 July 2006

Department of Materials and Production Engineering

University of Naples Federico II

The International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP)

Italian Association of Mechanical Technology (AITEM)

Ministry of Instruction, University and Research (MIUR)

Regional Government of Campania (RGC)

EC’s FP6 NoE: Innovative Production Machines & Systems (I*PROMS)

EC’s FP6 NoE: Multi-Material Micro Manufacture (4M)

The 5th edition of the Seminar will examine the applications of intelligent computation and related methodologies including expert systems, fuzzy logic, neural networks, multi agents, etc., as well as hybrid systems combining one or more of these techniques as applied to manufacturing engineering problems.

The main scope of the Seminar is to provide an international forum for the exchange of the knowledge, information, experience and results as well as the review of progress and discussion on the state-of-the-art and future trends in intelligent computation methods and tools applied to manufacturing processes.

Special sessions will be dedicated to two EC’s FP6 Networks of Excellence whose activities are focused on the areas of Innovative Production Systems and Micro Manufacture.
